TRADITIONS...
Well...time to begin some traditions. Holly is now getting old enough now to start archiving them. I'm sure that she will remember much more than we think. For starters though, we thought we would introduce the traditional holidays. She may have been a bit young to get the concept of Easter. But she sure looked cute all dressed up (and she knew it to!). She had a little bonnet that matched her dress, but refused to keep in on - I can't say I blame her! Anyway she looked just fine without it.
Next in line for the holidays was Halloween. Holly got a major kick out of this one! Mom took her to pick out a costume
and she chose a little doggie. The problem here was that it was well before the 31st, and she wanted to wear it all the time - everywhere! We ending up keeping it hidden from her, for the most part. Then, we went to the pumpkin patch to pick out some pumpkins to carve. After a few minutes of pumpkin searching, she decided that they are all basically the same, and that riding in the wheelbarrow was much more exciting. I agree, let's let Mom pick out the pumpkins. Finally, the time had come to do some "trick or treating". This was the best! Holly had been practicing for days to say "trick or treat". This whole concept of knocking on doors and getting treats must have seemed very cool to her. She wore a huge smile the whole time. We went to a little petting farm where local businesses had set up trick-or-treat booths for the little kids. If you knocked on their door, the costumed volunteers would open up and give you candy. Well Holly, with her little arms and little doggie mitts over her hands,
didn't have the oomph to actually knock on the door hard enough. Tired of being ignored, she quit trying to knock altogether and began yelling "Knock! Knock!" at each door! She was not to be denied, that's for sure. Holly stole the show that day.
Next, of course, would be Christmas. While it is not yet here, Holly is well aware of the upcoming event. She knows that it is Jesus's birthday. She also knows that it involves presents, and that Santa starts popping up on TV, the mall, and other miscellaneous places. We decorated the tree right after Thanksgiving. Being the good little helper she is, Holly had to take part. Now, if only we could get her to leave the ornaments alone!! Then we went to see Santa and said "cheese" as Holly would put it. All she knows is that she sat on his lap and they took her picture. There was no conversation or wish-lists presented - maybe next year.
